Bliefnick, Redbirds Finish Strong at ASU Red Wolf Classic

JONESBORO, Ark. - Illinois State senior Tommy Bliefnick continued his solid play on the final day of the ASU Red Wolf Classic. Bliefnick moved up one spot and finished tied for sixth place after he fired a 4-under-par 212 (71-70-71). His effort helped the Redbirds finish alone in fifth place in the 18-team field with a 3-over-par 867 (286-293-288).

"It was a solid team effort today," head coach Ray Kralis said. "Tommy and Kyle both had great tournaments which was great to see as we gear up for conference. We're looking good going into conference and we have a week and a half to get ready. To secure a top-five finish in an 18-team field is another strong showing for us and one that we can build on going into the conference tournament."

Senior Kyle Bragg finished his tournament on a strong note as he tied for 10th place after firing a 2-under-par 214 (70-74-70). Sophomore Eric Meier tied for 27th place with a 3-over-par 219 (72-75-72). Junior Jeff Kellen finished tied for 44th place, carding a 6-over-par 222 (73-74-75). Senior Joe Emerich tied for 56th place with a 9-over-par 225 (75-75-75). Competing as an individual, freshman Ryan Murphy showed signs of a bright future as he finished tied for 24th place after firing a 2-over-par 218 (77-70-71).

Middle Tennessee State claimed the team title as they fired a 6-under-par 858 (287-289-282). Central Arkansas fell back to second place with a 4-under-par 860 (285-280-295). Stephen F. Austin State rounded out the top three posting a 3-under-par 861 (283-289-289).

Jason Millard of Middle Tennessee State took home the individual title with a 7-under-par 209 (70-73-66). Michael Smith of Stephen F. Austin State claimed second place with a 6-under-par 210 (69-70-71). There was a three-way tie for third place with Steven Lecuyer of Central Arkansas, Neal McCarty of SIU Edwardsville and Josh Sims of Central Arkansas all carding a 5-under-par.

The Redbirds will travel to Hutchinson, Kan., to compete at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, April 26-27. The two-day, three-round tournament will be held at the Prairie Dunes Golf Club.
