After finishing in a tie for sixth place at the ASU Red Wolf Classic Tuesday, Illinois State senior Tommy Bliefnick received the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, as announced by the conference office. It is the second time this season Bliefnick received the honor.
The Decatur, Ill., native fired a three-round score of 4-under-par 212 (71-70-71) on his way to leading the Redbirds to a fifth- place finish in the 18-team field. It marked the sixth tournament this season Bliefnick finished in the top-15.
"Tommy has been such a strong performer and leader for us, it's great to see him recognized," head coach Ray Kralis said. "He brings it week in and week out, and he's always one of the top players in the field. I couldn't be happier for him. He was a big part of success this last week and you look for that out of a veteran player. I'm just thrilled for him, and I'm looking for his contributions come the conference tournament."
Bliefnick and the Redbirds will travel to Hutchinson, Kan., to compete at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, April 26-27. The two-day, three-round tournament will be held at the Prairie Dunes Golf Club.
