Stats Round 3 Tee Times
NEWBURGH, Ind. - The Illinois State women's golf team leads the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship by seven-strokes after firing a 301 in the second round at the Rolling Hills Country Club. Senior Laura Harris is in first place as an individual with a 145 (72-73), two strokes ahead of second place Olivia Lansing (Drake).
Seniors Stacey Miller and Marisa Milligan also finished with solid second-day rounds for the `Birds. Miller sits in fourth place with a 150 (76-74), while Milligan is in a tie for seventh place with a 154 (79-75). Also currently in the top-25, senior Britt Knutson is tied for 16th with a 159 (80-79).
Junior Terra Miller holds a 164 (85-79) to begin the final round in a tie for 36th.
"We did what we needed to do today in order to put us in a solid position heading into the final round," said head coach Darby Sligh. "Once again, this group fought so hard under tough scoring conditions and I am so proud of the way we handled ourselves during another pressure-packed day. Laura, Stacey and Marisa had exceptionally solid rounds."
ISU pulled ahead of Drake with the best team round of the tournament. Illinois State posted a two-round score of 608 (307-301), seven strokes ahead of second-place Drake (615). Missouri State sits in third with a 627. Northern Iowa is in a close fourth with a 628, and Indiana State sits in fifth with a 630. In the bottom half of the field is Wichita State (635), Bradley (641), Southern Illinois (644), Creighton (648), and Evansville (670).
"As for tomorrow, we are looking forward to getting back onto the golf course," said Sligh. "There are still many things we can do to improve upon as a team."
The tournament will conclude Tuesday with tee times starting at 9:30 a.m. ISU looks to become the second school in MVC history to win three-straight women's golf championships.
