Oxford, Miss. - Illinois State senior Stacey Miller led the women's golf team to 11th place in the first round of the three-day Rebel Intercollegiate. Miller fired a three-over par 75 to begin the tournament in a tie for 23rd place individually.

ISU carded an 18-hole team score of 310. Tulane leads the 20-team field with a two-over par 290, followed by East Tennessee State with a 292.

"Although we did a lot of things right today, we really struggled converting good shots into birdies, and we made too many bogeys," said head coach Darby Sligh.

Junior Terra Miller shot the second lowest first round score for the `Birds with a 77 to place in a tie for 45th individually. Both Stacey Miller and Terra Miller carded two birdies on the front nine holes.

Finishing the first day in a tie for 62th place individually, seniors Laura Harris and Marisa Milligan both posted a seven-over par 79. Senior Britt Knutson came in two-strokes behind Harris and Milligan with an 81 to tie for 81st place.

"Despite a mediocre team round, we are very excited to tee it up tomorrow and make a move," Sligh said. "We have a lot of positive things going for us right now, and I believe we are ready to take it low."

Illinois State is the only team from the Missouri Valley Conference competing in the tournament.

The second day of the event will begin with an 8:00 a.m. tee time on Saturday and continue with an 8:30 a.m. shot-gun start on Sunday. Live scoring is available through www.golfstat.com.
