Women's Tennis Hosts Two MVC Match-Ups

April 9, 2010

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's tennis team looks to expand on their conference winning streak in home matches against Creighton on Saturday at 1 p.m., and Wichita State on Sunday at 10 a.m. Both matches will be held at the Gregory Street Tennis courts, weather permitting.

"We're ready to keep playing," head coach Chris Hoover said. "It's almost like the days between matches are harder because we're hungry to play again. Hopefully we'll get another conference win and I'm looking forward to playing Wichita on Sunday because they're 2-0 in conference play."

Illinois State improved its overall dual season record to 13-4 and remains undefeated in conference action, 3-0, after defeating Evansville, 5-2, on April 3, and Southern Illinois, 5-2, on April 4. Sophomore Hannah Esker went undefeated during last weekend's Valley play and currently holds an eight-match winning streak in singles. Esker now sports a 13-3 dual singles record.

Creighton's dual season record stands at 10-6 and 0-2 in conference play. Most recently, the Bluejays dropped their second conference match to Northern Iowa, 4-3.

Wichita State holds an 8-10 dual season record and is 2-0 in conference play. The Shockers captured their second Valley victory with a sweep over Drake, 7-0. Wichita State will compete against Bradley on Saturday before facing the Redbirds on Sunday.

The Redbirds lead the all-time series over Creighton, 16-4. Illinois State bested the Bluejays, 6-1, in their last match-up on April 5, 2009.

Wichita State leads the all-time series over Illinois State, 16-8. The last time these two teams met was on April 3, 2009, when the Shockers swept the Redbirds, 7-0.
