Illinois State head volleyball coach Melissa Myers released the Redbirds' 2010 schedule Monday. The Redbirds are set to play 31 matches in the 2010 regular season, including four tournaments and 18 Missouri Valley Conference matches.
Illinois State has faced 19 of the 22 2010 opponents before, posting a combined record of 381-151.
Illinois State will play in four non-conference tournaments, all on the road. The Redbirds open the season on the West Coast at the Corvallis Invitational (Aug. 27-28) and will face Sacramento State, Portland and host Oregon State. ISU will make its first trip to the Pacific Time zone since the 1998 Long Beach Thanksgiving Classic.
The IU adidas Classic (Sept. 3-4), hosted by Indiana, will pit the Redbirds against North Carolina State, Indiana and Arkansas State. The following weekend takes the Redbirds to the Colorado State Tournament (Sept. 10-11) in Ft. Collins, Colo., taking on Northeastern, Texas Tech and Colorado State.
The Redbirds will face Miami University and DePaul in the one-day Miami Best Western Sycamore Inn Invitational (Sept. 18) in Oxford, Ohio.
Illinois State plays its first match at Redbird Arena against Loyola-Chicago (Aug. 31) and will visit SIU Edwardsville (Sept. 7) in another non-conference match.
Missouri Valley Conference play begins at Indiana State (Sept. 17), followed by matches at Wichita State (Sept. 24) and Missouri State (Sept. 25). October brings the first home Valley matches against Creighton (Oct. 1) and Drake (Oct. 2). After road matches at Evansville (Oct. 8) and Southern Illinois (Oct. 9), the Redbirds return home for four-straight matches against Northern Iowa (Oct. 14), Bradley (Oct. 17), Missouri State (Oct. 22) and Wichita State (Oct. 23).
Four of the next six matches for the Redbirds are on the road at Drake (Oct. 29), Creighton (Oct. 30), Bradley (Oct. 11) and Northern Iowa (Oct. 13). The first weekend of November features home matches against Southern Illinois (Nov. 5) and Evansville (Nov. 6) and the regular season concludes at home against Indiana State (Nov. 19).
The 2010 State Farm MVC Volleyball Tournament will be hosted by Northern Iowa Nov. 25-27.
