Four Redbird Women's Golfers Named MVC-Scholar Athletes

ST. LOUIS - Illinois State seniors Laura Harris, Stacey Miller, Britt Knutson and Marisa Milligan have been named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team, as announced by the league office Monday. Miller, Harris and Knutson were named to the first team, while Milligan was an honorable mention selection. Harris and Miller were both repeat selections to the first team.

Harris, a marketing major with a 3.94 cumulative grade-point average (GPA), competed in all 30 rounds this season and earned five top-20 finishes, three top-10 finishes and one top-five finish, which came at the State Farm MVC Championship. Harris led the `Birds to their third-consecutive MVC title after placing second with an individual score of 222 (72-73-77). She holds a scoring average of 76.8, firing 26 rounds in the 70s this season.

Miller, a management major with a cumulative GPA of 3.86, also competed in all 30 rounds through 11 events this season and holds the second-best scoring average in the league with a 74.7. Miller finished in third place at the MVC Championship, carding a 224 (76-74-74). The four-time MVC Golfer of the Week carded the lowest single-round score of her career came at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup, where she shot a three-under par 69. She leads the `Birds with 27 rounds in the 70s or below this season.

Knutson, a business education major with a 3.94 cumulative GPA, competed in eight events this season. An All-Valley selection for the first time in her career, she finished in 17th place at the MVC Championship with a 237 (80-79-78). She shot 17 rounds in the 70s, including a season-best one-over par 73 at the Hurricane Invitational. She finished in 20th place at the Hurricane Invitational, earning her the first MVC Golfer of the Week award of her career.

Milligan, a biology major with a 3.38 cumulative GPA, competed in all 30 rounds in all 11 events this year. She was an All-Valley selection for the second-consecutive year, finishing fourth at the MVC Championship with a 226 (79-75-72). Milligan posted her lowest score of the season at the Indiana Invitational with a 225 (69-79-77) to finish in seventh place.

Nominees for the MVC Scholar-Athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average (4.00 scale), the student-athletes must have reached sophomore status academically and athletically, while competing in 50 percent of their team's rounds or having played in the MVC Championships.

ISU women's golf will continue its season at the NCAA Central Regional in Columbus, Ind., May 6-8.
