ISU Women's Golf NCAA Central
NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's golf team is set to compete in the three-day, 54-hole NCAA Central Regional, hosted by Indiana University, May 6-8. The tournament will be held at the Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Ind. The participants will be separated into two groups; a morning group and an afternoon group, with 18 holes begin played each day. The morning group will tee off between 8-9:15 a.m., while the afternoon group will tee off between 12:30-2:09 p.m.
"It is my hope that this event develops into a career-defining moment for this talented, hard-working group," said head coach Darby Sligh. "If they go out and play with a sense of fearlessness, I think anything is possible."
Hoping to capture another title, Sligh has chosen to use the same Redbird line-up as the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship. Competing for the Redbirds will be seniors Stacey Miller, Laura Harris, Marisa Milligan and Britt Knutson and junior Terra Miller.
"We are all looking forward to getting back into action this weekend and showing what we are capable of accomplishing," Sligh said.
The 23 teams joining Illinois State in the Central Regional are Arizona State, Southern California, Purdue, Michigan State, Georgia, Denver, New Mexico, Florida State, Oklahoma State, Louisville, Kent State, Oregon, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Mississippi, San Diego State, Baylor, Tulsa, North Carolina State, Indiana, Murray State, Detroit and Jackson State.
Traveling as individuals will be Ashley Bauer (Michigan), Olivia Lansing (Drake) and Julia Potter (Missouri).
A total of 369 individuals will compete in the three regional tournaments, but only 126 will advance to the final championships, May 18-21. The top-eight teams and top-two individuals from each region (West, East and Central) will then battle at the Country Club of Landfall hosted by University of North Carolina, Wilmington.
