The Illinois State Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) has selected its officers for the 2010-11 academic year. The group of five officers consists of three student-athletes who will be seniors in 2010-11, one junior and one sophomore.
"Another outstanding group of student-athletes have been chosen to represent the Student-Athlete Advisory Council in 2010-11," associate athletics director for academics and life skills Jane Fulton said. "I know they will continue the strong traditions and hard work of the SAAC from recent years and will bring new ideas to the committee."
Junior swimmer Molly Gomberg was elected president. Gomberg, who competes in the backstroke and the butterfly, is a three-time MVC All-Valley selection and a two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete.
Sophomore football player Matt Lancaster was elected vice president. A quarterback from West Lafayette, Ind., Lancaster as named a National Football Foundation (NFF) National High School Scholar-Athlete in 2009. As one of five recipients, he was honored at a ceremony in New York City in December.
Junior swimmer Amy Schaefer was elected secretary/treasurer. Schaefer is a three-time All-Valley selection, competing in the freestyle and butterfly events.
Junior golfer Terra Miller was elected educational outreach coordinator. The Crown Point, Ind., native has been on the AFNI Athletics Honor Roll every semester and was named to the MVC Honor Roll the past two seasons.
Sophomore softball player Caiti Kopp was elected community service coordinator. The Normal, Ill., native has been on the AFNI Athletics Honor Roll all three semesters at ISU.
Gomberg, junior men's tennis player Filip Miljevic and junior soccer player Bethany Brown were all appointed as athletic council representatives for 2010-11. In this capacity, the student-athletes will serve as liaisons between the SAAC and the Illinois State Athletic Council, a group of faculty and staff members who oversee athletics. They will relay information between the two groups and promote a mutually beneficial relationship.
