NORMAL, Ill. -
Illinois State Associate Athletic Director for Compliance Cindy Harris has announced the hiring of Rich Eckert as a graduate assistant in the Redbird Athletics Compliance Office.
"I am thrilled to add Rich to our compliance office staff," Harris said. "He comes to us with a background which includes a great deal of experience and familiarity with the NCAA and its processes, so that is an obvious plus for our coaches and staff here at Illinois State."
Eckert earned a bachelor's degree in business management from Clarion University of Pennsylvania where he served as the Golden Eagle's representative to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference NCAA Division II Student Athletic Advisory Commission. His duties included updating the conference, commissioner and other student-athletes on key national legislative issues. Eckert also worked as an assistant to the associate athletic director and he was the president of the student-athlete advisory committee at Clarion.
"He has already demonstrated the work ethic, people-skills and willingness to learn and grow that is so important in a graduate assistant position," Harris said. "We will rely on him tremendously over the next two years and I am looking forward to working more closely with him and watching his growth as a professional."
Along with his involvement in athletic administration, Eckert excelled as a swimmer at Clarion. He was an eight-time NCAA All-American, a four-time NCAA qualifier and All-PSAC selection and holds two school records. Eckert was also a four-time Clarion Scholar-Athlete.
