NORMAL, Ill. - Kevin Tokarski's assault on the Illinois State baseball record book may be done for the season, but he's not quite finished receiving recognition for it. The redshirt sophomore from Downers Grove, Ill., was named a Ping! Baseball First Team All-American Wednesday.
Tokarski, already named the the Missouri Valley Conference Joe Carter Player of the Year, the State Farm MVC Tournament Most Outstanding Player, and a Louisville Slugger Third Team All-American, finished the 2010 season with a .412 batting average and school-record .538 on-base percentage.
Tokarski hit his eighth home run of the season during last weekend's NCAA Louisville Regional at Patterson Stadium and finished as the Redbirds' leader in RBI with 53. Tokarski set new school marks with 84 hits, 70 runs scored, 25 doubles, 53 walks, and surpassed his own single-season record with 33 steals.
Former Redbirds Kyle Bloom and Dave MacDonald were Louisville Slugger Freshman All-Americans in 2000, but Tokarski, with his second All-America honor, is the first to be named to a first, second, or third team since Dave Bergman was tabbed as a Sporting News All-American in 1974.
