NORMAL, Ill. -
For the second time in three years and for the fourth time since 2000, the official Illinois State men's basketball game-day program was voted the best in the nation in the annual publications contest conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The program, which was co-edited by former ISU Athletics Media Relations graduate assistant Kevin McCarty and current graduate assistant Lauren Hutchcraft, finished ahead of West Virginia and Missouri State.
This is the third-straight year CoSIDA ranked the men's basketball game-day program among the top-three nationally.
"Kevin and Lauren did a tremendous job on this publication," Illinois State Associate Athletics Director for Media Relations Todd Kober said. "Kevin and Lauren raised the bar in desktop publishing, not only within our shop, but nationally, with the use of innovation through the quick response (QR) codes. We take a lot of pride in our publications, and I'm really proud of both Kevin and Lauren with this well-deserved accomplishment."
The contest rankings were decided upon by two judges, which were coordinated by Ryan Finney of UCLA. Illinois State earned scores of 284 and 269 out of a possible 300 points awarded by each judge. Criteria for grading included team information, change pages, feature material, graphics and design, editorial content and additional information.
Since 2001, Illinois State's publications have earned 10 top-three finishes from CoSIDA, including five first-place finishes.
