Odiakosa Signs with Spain's UB La Palma

Aug. 15, 2010

NORMAL, Ill. - Former Illinois State men's basketball star Dinma Odiakosa will continue his basketball career after signing a one-year contract with UB La Palma of the Spanish LEB Gold division.

UB La Palma, which is based in Santa Cruz de La Palma, Canary Islands, posted a 16-18 record last season and failed to make the playoffs.

"I am excited for the opportunity to play for UB La Palma next season," Odiakosa said. "It's great to be part of a team like La Palma in my first year out of college. I feel ready to contribute right now and to help the team win games.

"It is a good start for me and I feel like this is a team where I can go play and continue to develop. I really looking forward to getting started."

Odiakosa, who was a member of Memphis Grizzlies during the 2010 NBA Summer League, will depart for his new team in a couple weeks, as the LEB Gold season begins in early October.

Odiakosa, who was a first-team All-Valley selection this past season and the league's defensive player of the year, averaged 12.8 points and a league-leading 8.7 rebounds per game for the Redbirds. He also led the conference in field goal percentage (61.1) and was the league leader in offensive rebounds per game (3.7). Odiakosa was also named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division I All-District 16 Second Team.
