White Sweeps Red, 3-0, In Intersquad Scrimmage

NORMAL, Ill. - The White team swept the Red team, 3-0, in the annual Red-White Scrimmage at Redbird Arena Saturday afternoon. Freshman Shannon McGlaughlin led the way for White with a match-high 17 kills in her first collegiate action at Redbird Arena.

The ISU roster was split in half for the intersquad scrimmage and the White team took all three of the highly-contested sets by just two points each, 27-25, 25-23 and 26-24.

Senior Katie Culbertson added seven kills, 12 digs and three block assists. Junior Tabitha Visk had five kills, junior Laura Wakefield added four and freshman LeighAnn Hranka chipped in three in the winning effort. Junior Kristin Stauter had 32 set-assists and three kills. Sophomore Jenny Menendez led White with a match-high 15 digs.

For the Red team, seniors Mallory Leggett and Hailey Kelley led the way with 13 and 10 kills each, respectively. Leggett also had a team-high 13 digs. Senior Amy Sesol had five kills and freshman Ashleigh Fisher added four in their first appearances in Redbird Arena. The Red team had seven service aces in the match, led by freshman Cora Nott's two. Freshman Sarah Fetter recorded 30 set-assists.

The Redbirds open the 2010 season against Sacramento State at the Corvallis Invitational, hosted by Oregon State, Friday at 6:30 p.m.
