NORMAL, Ill. -
Illinois State head basketball coach Tim Jankovich announced Monday that freshman recruited walk-on Kyle Miklasz (pronounced MICK-lash), a product of Hersey High School, officially joined the Redbird basketball team. Miklasz is a 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard.
"We are excited that Kyle has chosen to attend Illinois State University and join our basketball program," Jankovich said. "He is an outstanding competitor and shooter, as well as a first-class student. He is a welcomed addition."
Miklasz, a native of Mt. Prospect, Ill., was a two-year starter for head coach Steve Messer at Hersey High School. He led the team in scoring during both his junior and senior campaigns. As a senior, Miklasz averaged 13.2 points per contest and tossed in a season-high 32 points against Lake Zurich in the first round of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 4A Playoffs, behind a school-record nine made three-point field goals.
Miklasz finished his senior season with 56 made treys, while shooting 40 percent on threes, 50 percent from the field and over 70 percent from the free throw line.
A two-time first-team all-conference selection, Miklasz was named to the Daily Herald First Team All-Area squad after his senior season and was also twice named to the York Thanksgiving All-Tournament Team during his career.
