NORMAL, Ill. - Head coach Cris James has released the schedule for the upcoming 2010-11 Redbird men's tennis campaign.
The Redbirds will open their fall season at the Louisville Fall Invitational in Louisville, Ky., on Sept. 17, and will also compete in four other fall tournaments, including the ITA All-American and Midwest Regional Championships in October.
The spring season will begin Jan. 21 at the MVC Individual Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, followed by a schedule that features six home matches, two against conference foes Southern Illinois and defending MVC Tournament Champions Wichita State.
James believes the schedule will be a good challenge for his team.
"Every year I try to mix up the schedule, make it a bit tougher as our team gets better," James said. "Our goal every year is to win our conference, but it is good for our team to schedule some tough opponents and try to get some national exposure."
As defending MVC Co-Player of the Year, senior Timon Reichelt looks to lead the Redbirds to another MVC Regular-Season Championship. Reichelt posted a career-best records of 22-12 in singles and 20-11 in doubles in 2009-10.
The `Birds will also rely on sophomore Alexander Pelaez. As a freshman, the Cuban native registered a 25-10 singles and 21-14 doubles record, while being named MVC Freshman of the Year.
