Redbirds Head to Ball State for Top-Competition Play

Sept. 16, 2010

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's tennis team will continue its fall season this weekend at the Ball State Invitational in Muncie, Ind. The Redbirds will be matched up against all NCAA Division I schools including Ball State, Wright State, Butler, Dayton and Eastern Kentucky at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.

The `Birds opened their fall season last weekend at the St. Louis Invitational where sophomore Ariane Maack was the team's big winner at the No. 2 position winning all four singles matches.

Maack defeated Saint Louis's Jenny Nalepa, Washington St. Louis's Natalie Tingir, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville's Laura Horning, and Nova Southeastern's Oksana Krutiyenko.

Head coach Chris Hoover is looking for some of the same results this weekend and has high expectations for the Redbird's against the tough competition.

"We're looking forward to playing this weekend," said Hoover. "We played well last weekend in our first tournament and have been having good practices; we just need to get back in the swing of competition play. This weekend will be some better competition for us and will be a real test for our team."

Play is set to begin Friday with the tournament coming to an end Saturday.
