Illinois State women's golf was unable to hold onto its fourth-place position after the first round, as the Redbirds fell to sixth place after carding a 95-over-par 959 (321-327-311) at the Hawkeye Invitational, Sunday.
"It's hard to hide our disappointment surrounding our play this weekend, especially following such a solid performance last weekend at our home event," head coach Darby Sligh said. "I am proud of the way we fought back in the final round, although it didn't make a difference in the final standings. Our spirits are still high despite our struggles, and we are using this as a learning experience and moving forward this week."
Junior Hannah Bachman held the leading position for the Redbirds after shooting a 23-over-par 239 (78-86-75), and finished tied for 15th place. Sophomore Katie Jean (81-81-80) and freshman Jordyn Wyzgowski (80-83-79) shared the 20th-place position after both shot a 26-over-par 242. Senior Terra Miller (82-83-78) and freshman Brianna Cooper (84-80-79) tied for 22nd place after both carded a 27-over-par 243.
The Redbirds return to Redbird country for a week until competing at the Marilynn Smith Invitational in Lawrence, Kan., September 27.
