NORMAL, Ill. -
Junior Skip Span and freshman Mya Smith-Dennis will travel to Muncie, Ind., this weekend to compete in the Ball State Invitational. Play will begin Friday at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center and the Lucina Courts.
Span started off the season strong last weekend, placing second in Flight B singles at the Louisville Fall Invitational. Smith-Dennis did not compete last weekend due to injury. The two will both be competing individually in singles, and will team up to play doubles.
Head coach Cris James is anxious to see his student-athletes take the court.
"I'm looking forward to this tournament," James said. "I want to see Skip build off last weekend's performance, and I'm excited to see how Mya comes out in his first few matches as a Redbird. I've liked what I've seen from him in practice so far."
The tournament consists of three singles flights, three doubles flights and fields 12 teams: Illinois State, Ball State, Butler, DePaul, IPFW, IUPUI, Marquette, Northern Illinois, Eastern Illinois, Cleveland State, Xavier and Wisconsin-Green Bay.
This marks the 32nd year that Ball State has hosted the Ball State Invitational.
