NORMAL, Ill. -
The Illinois State softball team will take to the road for the first and only time this fall season when it travels to Madison, Wis., for a Sunday doubleheader with Wisconsin beginning at 1 p.m.
Sunday's games against the Badgers will provide a final tune-up for the Redbirds before they co-host the State Farm Illinois Collegiate Softball Championship at Champion Fields in Normal, Ill., Oct. 2-3.
"We are really excited to play against another program at the Division I level," head coach Melinda Fischer said. "We will be able to see what our strengths and weaknesses are and will get to see what we have absorbed over the last three weeks of practice. In our two scrimmage games, we have seen some very positive results, but we also have some weaknesses that we continue to improve upon each week and I think Wisconsin will be a great challenge for us."
Wisconsin finished with a 20-31 record last spring, including a 5-13 mark in Big Ten games. The Badgers return leading hitter Molly Spence, who set single-season school records last season with 41 RBI and a .347 average during her freshman campaign.
