Illinois State women's tennis head coach Chris Hoover made his first move of the 2011 spring season with the addition of freshman Phyllis Tigges to the roster.
Tigges hails from Neuenrade, Germany, where she attended St.-Ursula-Gymnasium Attendorn. In the past, Tigges has been ranked as high as No. 230 according to the International Tennis Federation women's rankings and as high as No. 35 in the junior rankings.
Hoover believes adding Tigges to the roster will be a major improvement for the spring season.
"Phyllis will be a great addition to our team," said Hoover. "We have high expectations for this season and she will help us along the way. We still have a lot of practice ahead of us, but we are excited to get the spring season underway."
The Redbirds will begin their spring season Jan. 30 against Purdue in West Lafayette, Indiana. Returning student-athletes Hannah Esker, Ariane Maack, Gabby Phillips, Ashton Nisbet, Heather Nisbet, Aniko Kiss, Sarah Streitz and Stefanie Youngberg will also be joining Tigges on the court for the 2010-11 spring season.
