Illinois State Prepares for WIU Dual Meet

Jan. 21, 2011

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State swimming and diving team will travel to Macomb, Ill. Saturday, Jan. 22 to compete in a dual meet against Western Illinois. Saturday's competition is set to begin at 2 p.m. and will be held in the Leathernecks Brophy Hall Pool.

Head coach Steve Paska hopes the team continues to prepare for conference during the weekend dual meet.

"We are on the road again this week against Western Illinois and it provides us an opportunity to compete and race with less than a month till the conference meet," Paska said. "We have to take advantage of every opportunity we have to race and dive, with a purpose, focus and intensity. This meet we will see some of the athletes swim different events, as we begin to evaluate the three events that best suit each swimmer on our team at the MVC championships."

Coming off a loss against the Ball State Cardinals, the Redbirds have three dual meets left as they prepare for the Missouri Valley Conference championship Feb. 17-19 in Carbondale, Ill.

Diving coach Phil Hoffmann believes the dual meet we will of great benefit for the divers.

"The meet at Western will help us continue on our path to clean up our dives and lists, and getting them as best prepared as we can for conference," Hoffmann said. "In both swimming and diving, there is no better way to prepare than in a meet setting, and participating in a meet this close to conference is a definite bonus."
