Guyton to Tee Up With Redbirds in 2011-12

Jan. 25, 2011

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's golf team will add Hayley Guyton to the young roster for the 2011-12 season, as the Aurora, Ill. native signed the National Letter of Intent (NLI), and will join the Redbirds on campus next fall.

Standing out as a four-year letterwinner on the Kaneland High School boys golf team, Guyton holds a 38-stroke scoring average, firing from the men's tees.

Guyton was a state qualifier all four years, and placed in the top ten at the state championships and was named first man on varsity, her junior and senior seasons. Guyton tied for first place in the state championship her junior season, and ended up finishing second after a one-hole playoff against the defending champion. She was an all-conference selection as a senior.

Head women's golf coach Darby Sligh looks forward to the addition of Guyton to the Redbird roster.

"I could not be more excited that Hayley is joining the Redbird family," Sligh said. "She brings with her a wealth of experience and poise. Her fun-loving and competitive personality adds fuel to an already burning fire; and I see her coming in and being able to compete for us early on. It is my hope that Hayley continues her growth as a young player and finds her stride within this tight knit group."

In her high school career Guyton placed second at the Mustwood Classic Major, third at the Challenge at Aldeen, third at the Geneva Invitational, third at the Oswego Invitational, second at the Royal Classic and second at the Bloomington Classic.

The young golfer's father, John Guyton, played golf at Purdue, and is currently the golf pro for Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton, Ill.
