NORMAL, Ill. -
Illinois State Athletics Percy Family Hall of Fame member Allen Pickering, who served as the men's basketball coach and director of athletics at Lincoln College, has been inducted into the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Hall of fame.
Pickering was inducted into the ISU Athletics Percy Hall of Fame in 1984. He lettered for the Redbird men's basketball in 1963, before named the head coach of the Lynx in 1976. Pickering posted 368-155 record during his 31-year tenure, including 11 seasons of at least 20 wins -- including six-straight from 1979-1985. During the 1980-81 season, Lincoln College set the school record with 33 wins under Pickering's guidance.
"It really is a great honor," Pickering told the Lincoln Courier. "It's really nice for somebody to look back and pick out all the good things in my career."
He also led the Lynx to two region titles, and helped the Lynx to a second-place finish in the 1981 NJCAA National Tournament. Pickering was named the NJCAA Region IV Junior College Coach of the Year in both 1980 and 1981.
He is also a member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Hall of Fame.
At Lincoln College, Pickering coached former Redbirds Steve Hansell, Steve Fitch and Reggie Wilson.
