ST. LOUIS, Mo. -
Senior forward Emily Hanley received the first Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week award of her career Monday. Hanley led the Redbirds to three wins in five days last week, averaging double-digit points and shooting above 50 percent.
Hanley scored in double-figures in all three Redbird wins last week, averaging 18.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game and shooting 58.6 percent from the field, 66.7 percent from three-point range and 85.7 percent from the free throw line. She has scored in double-figures in 10 of ISU's 12 games this season, including the last five-consecutive.
Hanley earned her third double-double of the season with 22 points and 11 rebounds against Milwaukee. She continued to excel at the start of Valley play, recording 15 points and eight rebounds against Bradley and 17 points and six rebounds against Northern Iowa.
The MVC Player of the Week award is the first for Illinois State this season, but the Redbirds are accustomed to being honored in Valley player. Over the last three seasons, Illinois State has won nine of the 20 MVC Player of the Week awards given out during the conference season, more than any other team during that span.
Illinois State closes out non-conference play at Northern Illinois Monday at 7:05 p.m. The Redbirds continue Valley play Saturday at Indiana State at 1:05 p.m.
