Play-by-Play Highlights
TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- Sophomore Anthony Cousin tossed in his third-straight double-digit scoring game, but the Redbirds suffered their third-consecutive loss and remain winless in the Missouri Valley Conference following a 72-57 loss to Indiana State, at the Hulman Center Tuesday night.
Cousin paced Illinois State (8-6 overall, 0-3 in the Valley) with 12 points, while Jackie Carmichael led the team with 16 points and John Wilkins added 11 for the only players in double-figures. Indiana State registered four players in double-figures, led by 14 points by Aaron Carter and 13 from Jake Odum. Jordan Printy added 11 tallies, while Jake Odum finished with 10.
For the first five minutes of the second half, Indiana State couldn't find the bottom of the basket. The Redbirds, behind two threes by Cousin, only managed six points during the span and were unable to fully capitalize. Illinois State never got any closer than seven points, 48-41, as the Sycamores kept the Redbirds at bay.
The two teams traded baskets for the first six minutes of the contest and Illinois State held a slim advantage, 14-12, at the 13:22 mark in the first half. Indiana State made the first run with a 9-4 spurt, with five points by Odum, giving the Sycamores a 21-18 lead. The Sycamores increased their lead by ending the half on a 17-7 run, which included a pair of three-point baskets by Printy, as Indiana State led 43-31 at the half.
Illinois State returns to action Friday night, when the Redbirds host Wichita State at 7:05 p.m., on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena.
