NORMAL, Ill. -
Illinois State senior Timon Reichelt received a national singles ranking of 115th and a regional ranking of 20th, and the doubles tandem of Reichelt and sophomore Alexander Pelaez received a national doubles ranking of 48th and a regional ranking of sixth, Tuesday in the newest release of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Men's National Rankings.
Reichelt had a standout fall season in singles for the Redbirds, compiling a 9-2 overall record which included a first-place finish in Flight A singles at the Louisville Fall Invitational in September.
Head coach Cris James believes Reichelt is deserving of his ranking.
"Timon really worked hard over the summer, and it's obvious that he has improved from last year," James said. "He put himself in a good position to play well, and he was able to go out and get good results."
Reichelt and Pelaez teamed up to lead the Redbirds in doubles play with a 9-2 record, which also included a tournament victory in Flight A doubles at the Louisville Fall Invitational.
James believes this duo has potential to achieve great results this spring.
"Although they had never played together before this season, I had a feeling they would play well," James said. "They had a really good fall, and both bring a lot to the table in doubles. Hopefully they can stay consistent throughout the spring season."
Reichelt is the first Redbird under James to receive a national singles ranking. The duo of Reichelt and Pelaez is the fourth Redbird doubles tandem to achieve a national ranking under James' direction.
