TULSA, Okla. - Illinois State's Tuomas Manner and Skip Span represented the Redbirds Saturday in the ITA- All American Tournament at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. Manner advanced to the third round of the pre-qualifying competition.

William Schumacher of San Francisco withdrew from the competition, allowing Manner to continue on to play against UNC Greensboro's Chanon Varapongsittikul . Manner defeated Varapongsittikul, 6-1, 6-2.

Assistant Coach Branko Kuzmanovic was impressed with Manner's success.

"I think Tuomos has a really good chance to keep going in the tournament," Kuzmanovic said. "He has been playing well and is continuing to show improvement. I'm excited to keep watching him and see what happens."

Span fell short to Daniel Brown of Texas A&M, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2, knocking him out of the competition.

"The guys competed well, especially because it's such a tough tournament," Kuzmanovic said. "It's hard that Skip didn't get the win at the end, but overall we played confident out there and I saw some really good things from the both of our guys."

Manner is set to play Saturday at 8 a.m. If he wins, he continues on to compete at 1 p.m.
