NORMAL, Ill. -
The Illinois State women's golf team will head to Columbia, Mo., to compete at the Johnie Imes Invitational at the Club at Old Hawthorne. The 54-hole tournament will begin with an 8 a.m., shotgun start both Monday and Tuesday. The first two rounds (36-holes) will be completed Monday, with the final round (18-holes) being completed Tuesday.
"This is always a big turning point in the fall season, said head coach Darby Sligh. "By the third event, you ideally want to have worked out many of the beginning-of-the-year kinks. I'm looking for big things from every single Redbird this week. This is a very solid golf course and talented field. I would be very happy to see us do well here."
Junior Katie Jean looks to continue her recent success coming off of a top-five finish at the Badger Invitational (Sept. 25-26). Others competing for the Redbirds will be sophomore Brianna Cooper, who finished tied for 10th at the Badger Invitational. Sophomores Rachel Powers and Jordyn Wyzgowski along with senior Hannah Bachman will round out the Redbird lineup. Competing as individuals will be freshman Hayley Guyton, and sophomore Carlee Cossell.
The Redbirds will compete against 14 other teams, including Arkansas-Little Rock, Colorado State, Florida International, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Missouri State, Morehead State, Princeton, Southern Methodist, Texas State and Missouri-Kansas City. The tournament field includes Missouri Valley Conference rivals Bradley and Wichita State.
