Women's Golf Set to Compete in IU Invitational

Oct. 14, 2011

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's golf team will travel to Carmel, Ind. to compete in the IU Fall Invitational. The two-day event to be held Monday and Tuesday at the Par-72, 6,030 yard Crooked Stick Golf Club.

The IU Invitational will host the Redbirds along with 12 other squads including Missouri Valley Conference foe Wichita State. The other teams competing will be Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Gonzaga, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Penn State, Toledo and Western Michigan.

Golfing for the Redbirds this weekend will be sophomore Brianna Cooper who looks to continue her recent success after finishing in third place at last week's Johnie Imes Invitational, as well as being named last week's Missouri Valley Conference golfer of the week. Junior Katie Jean, along with senior Hannah Bachman, sophomores Rachel Powers and Carlee Cossell will round out the Redbird lineup. Competing as an individual will be sophomore Jordyn Wyzgowski.

"We have a number of players coming off of bright spots from our tournament at Missouri last week, we need to carry this momentum going forward," said head coach Darby Sligh. "I'm looking for consistency across three rounds more than anything. With the right decision making, execution and attitude, there is no reason we can't pull out a great finish this week."

The 54-hole tournament will begin with an 8 a.m., shotgun start both Monday and Tuesday. The first two rounds (36-holes) will be completed Monday, with the final round (18-holes) being completed Tuesday.
