Final Stats
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Illinois State men's golf team concluded their fall season by finishing in fifth place at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate. The Redbirds recorded a final score of 890 (295-296-299) at the par-72, 7,098 yard Milburn Country Club. Central Arkansas took home the tournament title with a final tally of 843 (277-282-284).
Head men's golf coach Ray Kraliswould have preferred to have seen more consistency from his team, yet was satisfied with some individual performances.
"It seemed like everyone lost a few on the early holes and tough conditions made it difficult to get those back," Kralis said. "The lack of consistency that plagued us all fall once again hurt us as a team. Matt Solis finished the fall on a strong note with a top-five finish, and I was pleased to see Matt Hagemanpost solid opening and closing rounds in his Redbird debut."
Solis' one-over-par score of 217 (70-71-76) landed him in a tie for fifth place overall. Junior Ricky Hearden finished in a tie for 16th place, posting a final tally of 222 (74-71-77). Sophomore Wils Hawn concluded his fall season with a score of 226 (76-78-72) and a tie for 23rd. Hageman carded a 229 (75-80-74) to finish tied for 33rd. Senior Eric Meierconcluded his final fall season with a score of 235 (77-76-82).
Ryan Murphy, who competed as an individual, finished tied for 23rd with a final score of 226 (76-73-77).
As the fall season ends, Kralis is already looking forward to what the spring will bring.
"In spite of our performances this fall, our determination, mental toughness and will to prepare to win are all getting strong," Kralis said. "I am confident we'll see better results in the spring."
Illinois State will return to the links in January to begin their 2012 campaign. Their first scheduled event will be the Tinervin Cup in Placida, Fla.
