Freshmen Represent at Northwestern Invitational

Oct. 20, 2011

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Illinois State men's tennis team will be back in action for the last time this fall at the Combe Indoor Tennis Center in the Northwestern Invitational Oct. 21-23. The Redbirds will be joined in competition by nine other schools in the Midwest.

Participating schools include Northwestern Illinois, Northern Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, DePaul, Western Michigan, Toledo and Marquette.

Freshmen Jusso Ojanen, Muddappa Appanervanda, Jacob Wilson and Willi Peter will be representing the 'Birds.

Head Coach Cris James hopes his new guys use this tournament as an opportunity to continue to develop as players.

"The younger guys made some good progress in the last tournament so that needs to continue," said James. "I also hope we will show some progress in our doubles play."

James is pleased with how the season has been going but believes there is always room for improvement.

"Things we need to continue to improve on is our consistency from point to point and match to match," said James. "All of the guys know that, too."

Competition will begin Friday. Play is set to begin at 8 a.m.
