Oct. 24, 2011

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - On the heels of junior Katie Jean's individual ninth place finish, the Illinois State women's golf team secured a ninth place finish of their own in the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate at Oak Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C. Monday afternoon, in their final tournament of the fall.

Jean's 6-over-par (222-75-73-74) for the tournament locked in her third top 10 finish of the fall, after finishing in a tie for 4th in the Redbird Invitational and fifth in the Badger Invitational earlier in the season.

In addition to Jean's ninth place finish, sophomore Brianna Cooper fired her best round of the tournament carding a 1-over-par (73) and a score of 8-over-par (224-75-76-73) for the tournament on her way to a 20th place finish. Sophomore Rachel Powers finished the tournament at 13-over-par (229-73-78-78) and a tie for 40th position. Sophomore Jordyn Wyzgowski completed the tournament with a third round of 14-over-par to put her at 25-over-par (241-76-79-86) for the tournament. Sophomore Carlee Cossell finished Monday's round at 12-over-par and 26-over par (242-81-77-84) over the three rounds.

"Not really the finish to the fall that we were looking for," said head coach Darby Sligh. "We have many areas marked for improvement, and we are looking forward to working hard this offseason."

The Redbirds will return to the course to begin the spring season in the Illinois Challenge at the Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club, February 4th, in Boca Raton, Fla.
