Sophomore Brianna Cooper shot a two-under-par (70-72) through the first two rounds to give her a share of the overall lead at the Johnie Imes Invitational at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo. Illinois State will begin the third and final round tomorrow in eighth place after finishing a combined 30-over-par (308-298) on the afternoon. The Redbirds will begin tomorrow just two strokes back of both Colorado State and Missouri Valley Conference rival Wichita State.
"I am extremely proud of the way this team fought it out in the second round," stated head coach Darby Sligh. "Our scores continue to move in the right direction, it has been huge to have new people step up each and every week," Sligh added. "Brianna played so well all day and is really hitting her stride. We are looking forward to playing our hearts out tomorrow."
In addition to Cooper's two-under par, sophomore Jordyn Wyzgowski finished the day with a 9-over-par (80-73) after finishing the second round with a 1-over-par 73. "Jordyn had a great round in the afternoon to help us out as well," said Sligh. Wyzgowski will begin play tomorrow tied for 34th.
Senior Hannah Bachman finished Monday's two rounds with at 10-over-par (78-76) to finish the first two rounds in a tie for 45th. Sophomore Rachel Powers shot 13-over-par (80-77) on the afternoon and will start tomorrow's round in 57th. Junior Katie Jean closed the second round with at a combined 17-over-par (81-80) to finish in a tie for 72nd place. Competing as an individual, sophomore Carlee Cossell shot a 7-over-par (77-74) and is currently in 23rd position. Freshman Hayley Guyton closed the day out at 15-over- par (75-84) and is currently in a tie for 63rd place.
The Redbirds will resume action at 8 a.m. tomorrow with a shotgun start at The Club at Old Hawthorne.
