CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -
- Illinois State's Aniko Kiss finished in third place on Sunday in flight one singles at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships. Kiss holds a record of 9-1.

"Aniko did a good job this weekend," Hoover said. "She made a great comeback in the final set's tiebreaker so it was a good win. Overall, it wasn't a great day, but Aniko saved it. She's done great this semester."
Kiss defeated Dora Kotsiou from Evansville in an intense three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 14-12. Fellow Redbird Phyllis Tigges was defeated by Southern Illinois's Jennifer Dien, 3-6, 6-1 (10-8), and Heather Nisbet, who finished first place in flight five singles last year, fell to Cassia Wojtalik of Bradley, 6-2, 6-3.
Despite not finishing in first place, Hoover is hopeful for the rest of the year.
"It was a learning weekend for us," said Hoover. "We still feel positive about our group of student-athletes. We didn't perform like we know we can, so we're excited to get to really showcase the team in the spring."
The Redbirds spring opener is on January 21, 2012 at Illinois at 5 p.m.
