Hranka, McGlaughlin, Schneider Earn Valley Honors

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Illinois State sophomores LeighAnn Hranka and Shannon McGlaughlin and freshman Emily Schneider each received All-Valley honors at the 2011 State Farm MVC Volleyball Tournament Thursday afternoon. Hranka was a first-team All-Valley selection, McGlaughlin was a second-team selection and Schneider was named to the Valley All-Freshman team.

Hranka started 26 matches for the Redbirds this season, ranking second on the team in kills (316), kills per set (3.13), service aces (20) and points (363.5). She has led the team in kills 10 times and recorded double-digit kills in 22 matches. Hranka has recorded 11 double-doubles (digs/kills) this season, with her most recent against Missouri State with 14 kills and 18 digs. She recorded a season-high 19 kills against Northern Arizona on Aug. 27 and ranks 29th in all-time rankings in kills per set (2.45).

McGlaughlin started all 30 matches this season and leads the team in kills (402) and points (438.5) and ranks second in the Valley in kills per set (3.47). She was named to the Wolverine Invitational All-Tournament team and the Skyhawk Invitational MVP. McGlaughlin has produced double-digit kills in all but five matches and tallied 10 double-doubles (digs/kills) this season. She ranks 12th in all-time rankings in kills per set (3.24) and 28th in kills (754). She marked a career-high 22 kills and season-high 23 points against Stephen F. Austin on Sept. 2. McGlaughlin was the Skyhawk Invitational MVP and she was named to the Wolverine Invitational All-Tournament team.

Schneider appeared in 29 of 30 matches in her freshman season, ranking first in hitting percentage (.241) and blocks (98) and third in kills (185). She compiled double-digits in five matches, including a career-high 12 kills against Creighton on Oct. 29. Schneider produced hitting percentages of above .450 in six matches and recorded nine appearances with no more than one attack error. She marked a career-high .667 for 10 kills and no errors against Cal State Bakersfield on Aug. 27. Schneider was named to the UniWyo Cowgirl Classic All-Tournament team.

Illinois State has had a player on the Valley All-Freshman team five of the last six seasons. The fifth-seeded Redbirds will take the court Thursday night against the fourth-seeded Creighton Bluejays in the second match of the State Farm MVC Tournament quarter-finals, at the McLeod Center at 7:30 p.m. (CST).
