Redbird Basketball Returns to Chicago Radio

Nov. 9, 2011

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's basketball radio broadcasts will once again be available in Chicago, thanks to a new partnership between the ISU Athletics Department and WVON-AM 1690, "The Talk of Chicago."

"We are pleased to complement our Chicago television coverage with the addition of adding WVON and the Chicago market to our radio network," Illinois State Director of Athletics Gary Friedman said. "This continues to build our state-wide brand and speaks volumes to the level of interest for Illinois State University in the Chicagoland area. I personally want to thank Earl Jones for his leadership and developing this partnership."

Clear Channel President and Marketing Manager Earl Jones understands the importance of Illinois State to the Chicago market.

"With 120,000 living alumni in the state of Illinois, and the majority living in the Chicago Metro area; Illinois State holds an obvious presence, interest and value in our market," Jones said. "We look forward to doing our part to bring Redbird Athletics to its many alumni and fans in Chicago."

WVON-AM 1690 sports a 10,000-watt signal and the agreement calls for a 10-game broadcast schedule, which will be issued at a later date. The WVON-AM 1690 coverage area includes downtown Chicago and the southwest suburbs.

Other Redbird Radio Network stations include WJBC-AM 1230 and FM 93.7 in Bloomington (flagship), WFMB-AM 1450 in Springfield, WZPN 96.5 ESPN in Peoria, WJEZ 98.9 FM in Dwight, and WDZ-AM 1050 in Decatur, while negotiations with other stations throughout the state are ongoing.
