SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Jeff Kellen, Wils Hawn and Ricky Hearden assisted the men's golf team Tuesday, as the `Birds moved up to 15th place after carding a 53-over-par 905 (305-294-306), in the final round of the Oak Hills Invitational at the Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio.

Kellen led the Redbirds, as the senior carded an 11-over-par 224 (76-73-75) during the tournament, and moved up to 47th place.

Hawn shot a 13-over-par 226 (80-70-76), which moved the freshman into a tie for 54th.

Making the biggest improvement was Hearden, who finished the tournament with a 15-over-par 228 (79-74-75), and improved from 75th place to a tie for 64th.

"Today was a bit disappointing from a competitive standpoint," said head coach Ray Kralis. "We didn't get the low number or two that you need to have, and we had to count a high fourth score. That doesn't make for a great combination. But patience is imperative for us considering this was our first outing outdoors and on grass, and I saw many positives through the lineup. Fortunately, we start fresh again next weekend at South Alabama, and that opportunity is one we are looking forward to."

Texas Tech clinched the title spot by 12 strokes, finishing the tournament with a 15-under-par 837 (273-277-287), with Nils Floren taking the individual title for the Red Raiders, after firing a five-under-par 208 (69-71-68).

Illinois State returns to Normal, Ill., for a week before traveling to Mobile, Ala., for the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, Feb. 21-22.
