The Illinois State gymnastics team posted its highest score of the season (194.000) to top Ball State (192.750), Seattle Pacific (190.825) and Wisconsin-LaCrosse (189.875) on Senior Night at Horton Field House.
Senior Erica Schick took top honors in the all-around competition scoring 38.950, followed by sophomore Kim Genereux who took third place with a score of 38.875. Senior Hannah Deutsch took first place on the floor exercise with a score of 9.825 and the balance beam scoring a career-high 9.925.
Head coach Bob Conkling was excited for both Genereux and Deutsch.
"I'm really excited about Kim's performance," Conkling said. "We always knew she was capable of putting together a good all-around score and she did that tonight. Hannah getting a 9.925 on the balance beam was the highlight of the night. She has been wanting to get a 9.900 all year so that was really exciting for her."
Sophomore Apollonia Barrientos tied for first with Shick on the uneven parallel bars scoring 9.750. Genereux was a close second on the bars scoring 9.725. Barrientos also tied for third place with Schick on the floor exercise scoring 9.775. Junior Melissa Mann took third place on the balance beam for the Redbirds.
The vault proved to be a strong event for the Redbirds with Genereux taking second place (9.750), followed closely by Shick in third (9.725) and freshman Jenna Bossle in fourth (9.675).
"It wasn't a perfect meet, but they covered it up really well," Conkling said. "I've always felt like we were a 194.000 team, so to do that with some of our top performers out is really exciting."
The Redbird will hit the road for their final four meets starting Saturday, Feb. 26 against Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas at 7 p.m. MT.
