ISU Gymnasts Hit The Road To Take On Texas Woman's University

Feb. 24, 2011

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State gymnastics team will travel to Denton, Texas to take on Midwest Independent Conference opponent Texas Woman's University, Saturday, Feb. 26 at 8 p.m. CT.

The two teams met twice last season, winning one meet a piece. ISU defeated TWU, 191.400-191.200, in the two team's first match-up, but TWU defeated the Redbirds in the Midwest Independent Conference Championship meet, 193.275-193.125. This will be the first meeting of the two teams this season.

Head coach Bob Conkling is excited to compete on the road against TWU.

"We are excited to compete at TWU this weekend, but just because they are in our conference but also because it should be good competition," Conkling said. "We both have had some strong performances this year and if both teams do what they can in competition it should be a close battle."

The Redbirds are coming off a season-high score of 194.000 last weekend against Ball State, Seattle Pacific and Wisconsin-LaCrosse.

Sophomore Kim Genereux took second place on the vault with a score of 9.750, followed by senior Erica Schick who took third scoring, 9.725. Senior Hannah Deutsch took first place on the floor exercise (9.825) and the balance beam with a career-high, 9.925. Sophomore Apollonia Barrientos tied for third place alongside Shick on the floor exercise scoring, 9.775. Junior Melissa Mann took third place on the balance beam with a score of 9.800.
