NORMAL, Ill. -
Senior Erica Schick led the Illinois State gymnastics team to victory over Ball State Friday night with a first place all-around performance of 38.850.
The Redbirds defeated the Cardinals 193.250-191.975 in their first victory on the road this season.
Head coach Bob Conkling was happy with the team's performance while away from home.
"I thought they did pretty good," Conkling said. "There were some really good moments. We were a little shakey on balance beam, but other than that I thought we did really well."
Schick had a strong evening taking first place on the uneven bars (9.775), third on the balance beam (9.675) and third on the floor exercise (9.750). Sophomore Apollonia Barrientos took third place on the vault and the uneven bars scoring 9.700 and 9.725, respectively. Senior Hannah Deutsch won the only event of the evening with a first place performance on the balance beam (9.725). Junior Melissa Mann took second on the beam scoring 9.700.
ISU will take the week off before traveling to Cape Girardeau, MO to take on conference rival South East Missouri State Friday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. CT.
