The Illinois State gymnastics team will travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo., to take on Midwest Independent Conference rival Southeast Missouri State, Friday, Feb. 11 at Houck Field House at 7 p.m.
The Redbirds defeated SEMO, 191.500-190.275, in their first meet of the season Jan. 8. Currently, the Redhawks are leading the conference.
Illinois State head coach Bob Conkling is excited to compete against a conference rival.
"We are always excited to compete against SEMO," Conkling said. "We've been battling against them since I have coached here. It's always good to go against a team that is close to your ability and I think it is going to be a good competition and a fight till the last event."
ISU is coming off a win against Ball State (193.250-191.975) last weekend which proved to be a good meet for senior Erica Schick, who took first place in the all-around competition, scoring 38.850. Schick took first place on the uneven bars (9.650) and scored third on both the balance beam and floor exercise, scoring 9.675 and 9.750, respectively. Sophomore Apollonia Barrientos took third place on the vault (9.700) and third place on the uneven bars (9.700). Senior Hannah Deutsch won the only event of the evening against Ball State, taking first on the balance beam, scoring 9.725, followed by junior Melissa Mann who scored 9.700.
