NORMAL, Ill. -
The Illinois State men's tennis team will head to the east coast this weekend to take on Ivy League schools Columbia and Harvard, Friday and Saturday. Friday's match against Columbia begins at 1 p.m. CST, and Saturday's match against Harvard will begin at 11 a.m. CST.
The Redbirds enter the weekend on a three-match winning streak, after defeating Georgia State, Ball State and Western Illinois over the last two weeks.
ISU has only faced Columbia once, in the 1985-86 season, and has never competed against Harvard. Columbia currently boasts a 6-8 record, while Harvard maintains a 9-7 record.
Head coach Cris James feels his squad will be challenged in both matches this weekend.
"We don't know these teams too well," James said. "We're going to have tough, close matches. We need to compete hard and fight hard, and if we do that, the results should fall into place."
