NORMAL, Ill. -
The Illinois State women's golf team heads to Myrtle Beach, S.C. Sunday for the two-day, 54-hole Barefoot at the Beach Intercollegiate on the Davis Love Course. Play begins with 36 holes starting at 8:00 a.m. Sunday and 18 holes for the final round Monday.
Rachel Powers, Katie Jean, Terra Miller, Hannah Bachman and Jordyn Wyzgowski will team up to compete for the Redbirds as Brianna Cooper will compete as an individual.
"We are elated to get out of the cold and compete in Myrtle Beach," said head coach Darby Sligh. This event serves as a transition for us from indoor preparation to finding our groove for the remainder of the year outside. It's been a very tough winter and I think I can speak for everyone when I say that getting back to warm weather is exactly what we need right now."
This is the first Barefoot at the Beach Intercollegiate that the Redbirds have competed in, in the challenge's two-year history.
"We must use this event to propel our games forward in every aspect, both ball striking and short game," Sligh said. "I feel that we are still missing the few pieces necessary to get the scores we are searching for. It's time for everyone on this team to come together and put three rounds together. We don't have any time left for excuses."
Results will be available at the conclusion of each round.
Update: Due to inclement weather, play at the Barefoot at the Beat Challenge was delayed Sunday evening as only two holes remained at sundown. Each team will tee off Tuesday morning to finish the first round and the second will follow immediately.
