2011 All-Valley Release
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Three Illinois State women's basketball players received All-Valley recognition, as announced by the league office Wednesday. Seniors Amanda Clifton and Emily Hanley and junior Katie Broadway were all named to All-Valley teams for the first times in their careers.
Hanley was a first-team selection, Broadway was a second-team selection and Clifton was named to the honorable mention and all-defensive teams. Illinois State has had three players named All-Valley in each of the last three years and has had a player on the Valley All-Defensive and Scholar-Athlete teams in five-consecutive seasons.
Hanley leads the Redbirds in scoring (14.2 ppg) and field goal percentage (51.8), ranks second in rebounding (6.9 rpg) and third in blocks (14). This season, she led the Valley in field goal percentage, ranked fifth in scoring and eighth in rebounding. A two-time Valley Player of the Week, Hanley topped the team with four double-doubles on the season. She recorded career-highs of 24 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Illinois-Chicago. Hanley scored in double-figures in 22 games, including six 20-point efforts, and shot better than 50 percent in 16 of those games. She was also named to the Valley Scholar-Athlete Second Team.
Clifton leads the Redbirds with 143 assists and 73 steals, which both rank in the top-15 in the ISU single-season records. She led the Valley in assists (4.9 apg) and ranked second in steals (2.5 spg) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.9). Clifton has recorded at least five assists in 16 games and at least three steals in 15 games. She recorded her first-career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 10 assists against Missouri State. Clifton is currently more than tripling her career scoring average (6.1 ppg) and has scored in double-figures five times, including a career-high 14 points against Nevada.
Hanley and Clifton became the first Redbirds to receive their first All-Valley honors as seniors since Jaci McCormack was an honorable mention selection in 2005.
Broadway leads the Redbirds in three-point field goals (56), matching her total from last season, and three-point field goal percentage (36.8) and ranks second in scoring (12.2 ppg). She ranked fourth in the Valley in three-point field goal percentage, sixth in three-pointers made per game (1.9) and 14th in scoring. She has scored in double-figures in 19 games, including a career-high 22 points in the home win over Southern Illinois. Broadway made multiple three-pointers in 19 games, including a season-best four triples in three games.
