NORMAL, Ill. -
Illinois State plays Northern Illinois for the second-consecutive week, as the Redbirds host the Huskies Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Duffy Bass Field in Normal, Ill. The Redbirds (21-9) will try to avoid losing three-straight games for the first time this season, while NIU (13-16) is looking for its third-consecutive win.
The Redbirds and Huskies met last Tuesday, April 5, with Illinois State winning, 7-4, in DeKalb, Ill. Chad Hinshaw went 2-for-2 with two runs and a RBI, while David Fallon contributed a 2-for-4 effort with a run scored in his third Redbird start. Tyler McNeely earned a team-best two RBI. Jeff Zimmerman led the Northern Illinois effort with a three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
JD Learnard (3-2), who notched last week's victory over the Huskies by no-hitting NIU through four innings, will also start Tuesday's game. Northern Illinois will counter with Tony Manville (3-1). Learnard and the Redbirds enter Tuesday's non-conference matchup after losing their Missouri Valley Conference series-opener to Creighton, 2-1. Northern Illinois is coming off a 2-1 series victory over Mid-American Conference foe Miami (Ohio).
Tuesday is National Pastime Day at Duffy Bass Field, with fans 55 years old and up receiving a discounted, $3 admission. Illinois State Greek students who wear their letters to the game will receive free entry in conjunction with Greek Day.
