ISU Basketball Signs Juco Scorer, Brown

April 14, 2011

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State head basketball coach Tim Jankovich announced the signing of Tyler Brown, a 6-foot-4, transfer guard from Marshalltown (Iowa) Community College, to a National Letter of Intent Thursday.

Brown, who was a two-time National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I All-American, ranked No. 13 nationally in scoring with 21.2 points per game last season. Brown was named a second team All-American two weeks ago, after earning honorable mention honors following his first season at Marshalltown.

"We are really excited that Tyler has signed with our program," Jankovich said. "He is a very versatile and talented player, and it is no secret that we are in need for some additional scoring production. We are counting on him to help us fill that role."

A product of Apollo High School in Owensboro, Ky., Brown originally signed with Morehead State out of high school and redshirted his first season with the Eagles.

As a prep, Brown scored 1,068 points in three varsity seasons. As a senior, he averaged 16 points per game. During his sophomore campaign, Brown averaged 15 points per game and helped the Eagles advance to the "Sweet 16" of the state tournament.
