Illinois State Placed in NCAA Central Regional

April 25, 2011

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - After taking the 2011 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship title, the Illinois State women's golf team was placed into the NCAA Central Regional to compete against a field of 24 teams in the three-day, 54-hole tournament May 5-7. The regional tournament will be hosted by Notre Dame at the Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind.

"This is an exciting opportunity for us, especially as a young squad," said head coach Darby Sligh. "This will be a time for us to gain much needed experience on a golf course that will be similar to our home facility. This is a very tough field to compete in, but we have the momentum going in our direction."

The MVC champion-lineup of Terra Miller, Brianna Cooper, Hannah Bachman, Katie Jean and Rachel Powers will represent Illinois State at the Central Regional.

The Redbirds will be competing against UCLA, Duke, LSU, Arkansas, Wake Forest, Texas, Tulane, Stanford, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Kent State, Chattanooga, Northwestern, Minnesota, UNLV, Oklahoma State, North Texas, Wisconsin, East Carolina, Michigan, Illinois, Morehead State and Butler.

Illinois State will be the only team to represent the Missouri Valley Conference in the NCAA Regionals.

The individuals competing include Harin Lee (St. John's), Lindsay Gahm (Indiana), Bonnie Hu (Harvard), Nina Muehl (East Tennessee State), Brittany Kelly (Ball State) and Britney Hamilton (Western Michigan).

Of the 378 participants selected for the regional competitions, only 126 will advance to the championships finals.

Teams that place in the top eight of each regional will go on to compete in the championship finals May 18-21, at the Traditions Club in Byran, Texas, as Texas A&M will host.
