The Illinois State women's tennis team will compete at the 2011 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Team Tennis Championship Friday at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo.
With wins over Bradley, Creighton and Drake, the Redbirds have accumulated a valley record of 3-4 and an overall record of 7-12, placing them at the No. 6 seed for the tournament. At least year's tournament, Illinois State came just shy of winning in the final round losing to Wichita State, 4-1.
The `Birds will go up against No. 3 seed Drake Friday in the quarterfinals but Head coach Chris Hoover thinks his team is ready for action.
"This is going to be a tough weekend," said Hoover. "We definitely have our work cut out for us with such tough competition but we're ready for anything. We've been playing well and we've beat Drake before, so we're looking to do it again. We want to hold on and give Drake a good match."
Illinois State's match against Drake will begin Friday at 1 p.m. CDT, with the winner moving on to the semifinal round on Saturday against the winner of the No. 7 seed Creighton and No. 2 seed Northern Iowa.
