The Illinois State women's golf team was unable to overcome the multiple weather delays that cut the Indiana Invitational one round short, as the Redbirds finished with a two-round 647 (324-323) at the Otter Creek Golf Club Tuesday.
During the first-round of play Rachel Powers and Brianna Cooper led the Redbirds, as the two freshmen shot seven-over-par 79's.
Hannah Bachman and Katie Jean closed out the first round with 11-over-par 83's, as Terra Miller finished just one stroke behind her teammates with an 84 going into round two.
Miller stepped her game up in the second round, firing a five-over-par 77, to give her a two-round 161 and 43rd-place finish. Cooper joined Miller in 43rd place, after shooting a 10-over-par 82 in the second round, which brought her two-round total to 161.
Also improving in the second round was Jean, recording an eight-over-par 80. She finished the tournament tied for 54th place.
Powers dropped six strokes in the second round, bringing her two-round final to 164 and placing her in a tie for 59th place.
Bachman ended the tournament with a 167-final tally, after recording a 12-over-par 84 in the second round.
Jordyn Wyzgowski played as an individual during the two rounds and struggled with a 168 (82-86) two-round total, placing her in a tie for 71st.
"This was not the finish we needed to build confidence, but all is not lost," said head coach Darby Sligh. "This tournament openly displayed a few of our weaknesses and we will be spending the next few weeks working on getting better in those areas."
Louisville took the team title with a two-round 593 (298-295). The Cardinals' Maria Castellanos took the individual title, with her one-over-par 145 (72-73).
The Redbirds return to campus for two weeks before hosting the 2011 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship at the D.A. Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Ill., April 22-23.
